One of the very first projects we were introduced to was Global Campus. It was an online course bringing together students from across the world and a chance for collaboration!

The first few sessions were a little confusing as the London students joined later into the course but I found what was being taught interesting. However, I came to realise most of the “teaching” was a powerpoint I’d have to revise before the actual meeting, and the meeting was a chance to collaborate with other students on the topics. I found this intriguing but often times didn’t get the chance to actually do anything. Since it was online everyone seemed very shy (including myself) and when we’d be split into groups and into “breakout rooms” in the zoom call, I was often met with silence.
There was one instance in which this actually worked out! I was put in a group with 2 students from Toronto and 1 from South Korea, we were to simply introduce ourselves and work on a project. We all exchanged details and made a group-chat on instagram.
This project was called the “Virtual Getting to Know You” Assignment.

Since all our timezones were so vastly different, we instead opted to each record a video touring around our areas of choice.
This turned out very well and we all had lovely videos to share 🙂 I even still keep in touch with one of them!

Unfortunately, this was the only group project during the course that actually worked out…
Other projects
During the course we were also given “sprints”. These were fast projects that were intended to only take a week or two to complete, we were given 2 to do throughout the course.
Here is a look at my first sprint:

Sprint 2
For this sprint I did quite a bit of research and spent a lot longer on it. I think this is because I chose a topic/artist I am very passionate about 🙂 Ai Yazawa is one of my favourite artists!!

Conclusion
Overall, I’d say Global Campus was an interesting experience. I was a little confused at some points but I ultimately learned a few things about globalisation and marketing products for an international audience. How things might get lost in translation and how making profiles for your audience is extremely beneficial.
