Conclusion

I am extremely glad that I chose to undergo a DPS year. It was vital in growing not only my skills but also confidence with industry related topics. I got an extra year to develop my art before I graduate and I learned so many more programs and software that I would not have, had I gone straight into third year to do my final major project. I am immensely grateful for our DPS coordinators and tutors who have guided and mentored us through the year and helping us secure these opportunities, if it weren’t for them, I might not have managed to get a placement and complete my 100 days.

What’s next?

Starting in June, I will begin my Self-Initiated Project! I am extremely excited about this as I will be combining both character design and exploring one of my dreams of fashion design, sewing my characters costumes.

When I started DPS I was very specific and concentrated on going into concept art and while I still would love to do this, I have since opened my mind to more opportunities. Before the year, I was starting to think about going beyond digital art and maybe even pursuing one of my hobbies in fashion, but I thought it was too late and I’d already delved into games art, that I’d have to get a games artist job as soon as I graduated. But, during the year I slowly began realising it definitely is not too late, I’m still 20 years old I haven’t run out of time, and I should just go for it. I will continue to persue artist roles that focus on character’s, but also expanding my range by not limiting myself to the games industry.
