Our very first steps as a team was to brainstorm any words that came to mind when thinking about Blink as a company. This would help us get an overall vibe alongside any research we do on the company.

We also discussed Log Lines; the one or two sentence pitch/description of the story. We all wrote one and voted for our favourite; Jada’s line won

“A zany, unpredictable hero crashes into a surreal mixed media world and comes face to face with a corporate looking creature.”
Very first moodboard:

We went into more depth with moodboards on shared pinterest boards! These are very useful in group projects, especially when starting a concept from scratch.

Alongside this, we also brainstormed words and ideas for both characters we’d have to create. This was very important in order to get their personalities and how they interact with the world and others.

Below are my very first sketches of the characters after discussing what they might be like:

At first the enemy was a menacing evil corporate boss. However, during our mid-point review, we got feedback from Nicola who had given us this brief that Blink wouldn’t want to send the message that they hate corporate and want to destroy it. So, while we didn’t change our idea completely, we pivoted the design of the boss to be more silly and less intimidating but still keeping the looming figure of a boss.
